Oliver Sutro's Art Supplement

Dear College/University Admissions,

This is my art supplement. These pictures are a mix of film and digital. I will indicate one or the other. My letter of recommendation was written by the honorable Mike Hogan but perhaps, you might also consider the comments of friends and followers of this blog (there is a link to comments at the top of the post).  Feel free to look through all of the photos  that I have submitted previously. I have not, and will not take anything down; this blog has not been censored for college / university admissions officers. I hope you can appreciate my honesty.

Thank you for spending your valuable time skimming through my photos. If you may be so brave, leave a comment, and I might be brave enough to read it.

Thank you,

-Oliver Sutro

Dear Followers,

I am temporarily stopping the flow of photos on this blog for college/university consideration. I would be glad if you could write a comment of, how you know me, your history with me or, most importantly, what you think of my photos or previous work.

I can't thank you all enough for all your support and comments. Perhaps, you should take this time to pick up a camera, a brush, some Starbucks coffee stirrers, and create! Love you guys, girls, and even that abrasive pirate.

Until next time,

Oliver Sutro

  1. wow! I hadn't looked here for a while - I remember when you just started this, but your work really is amazing. A lot of people call themselves photographers, but you are one of the few I know that deserve it.

  3. This may sound lame but honestly, I flip through every Tiger issue to look at your photos first. I've followed your photography since you began and it has grown and changed. Most of the time people can buy a nice camera and take nice photos but when you can take photos with any camera that's when you're a real photographer.

  4. I don't know you as well as some other people, but I can tell that you are a great individual. I am looking at your actions, and your statements, you are very serious and passionate about your work.
Your photos are amazing, and the thing that amaze me most, is the diversity of pictures you can take. Sports, profiles, landscapes, pretty much everything !

  5. Oliver. Your work has come to be nothing short of astounding. Not that it ever was anything less, but seeing your art grow over the past two years has almost been a humbling experience. Knowing you as a person has made your work just that much more enjoyable - knowing that behind every photograph there is a passionate, curious, and dedicated person who has strived for perfection. Despite the fact that I was somewhat of your superior on the school paper as your associate editor of photography, I always felt that you were kind of the one pushing me to work harder and better my art. As a person and a creator, you are inspiring.

  6. You've been doing this for just two years!? Although you're only eighteen, it seems as if you've been doing this for years! It's so great to finally see someone w/ a camera that has natural talent. Your work is just breathtaking.

  8. I'm honored to be in a good number of your photos. You've grown a lot in the past couple years. The work you've done for our school newspaper is truly remarkable. You quickly rose through the ranks and as photo editor you've done amazing work. Not only are you able to contribute great photos to the paper, but you're able to inspire others to do the same. Your leadership combined with your pure photography skills is what sets you apart. You're the man.

  9. I am absolutely amazed by the professional quality of your work. Just looking at your photographs, I would never guess that they were taken by a high school student. The creativity displayed in the varied nature of your art is awe-inspiring, and many of your pictures leave me thinking, "how in the world did he capture this?" Keep up the amazing work. I know you are going to go far.

  10. Oliver, your talent is evident in final photographs that are always engaging, beautiful, and varied in subject matter. Yet I also want to make note of the earnestness and hardwork that happens behind the scenes. You have a creative eye and the patience to capture your vsion, that much is clear seeing you do a shoot. I think this discipline and dedication sets you far apart and guarentees you success in whatever passion you truly set your mind to.

  11. Notable characteristics of photographer Oliver Sutro are as follows:

    1. Dedication to his art: I have rarely seen Oliver without a strapped photographic device around his neck. Not only does he make use of opportunities that present themselves by taking his camera everywhere, Oliver creates and seeks them. For example, Oliver and a few friends took a trip up to the mountains of Angeles Crest simply to capture an idea he had.

    2. Creative eye: One who strives to take good photographs can work and work as Oliver does, but most will not attain his level of proficiency because they lack a certain talent of composition and technical ability that Oliver so clearly exacts in his work.

    3. Interaction with others: Most importantly, Oliver is a fountain of influence, meaning not only does he greatly influence others but he asks of others critique and commentary so that he may grow as a photographer. His work is an inspiration to many young photographers, myself included, and he will continue to amaze people in the future with the content of his work.

I hope my thoughts have helped and provided some insight, Oliver is a good photographer except that he owns a Canon 50d, what a loser. That thing is such a waste of money, he should have just gotten the 40d or at least saved up for an expensive camera body that was worth its price.

But I digress. Oliver's photography is a visual manifestation of his life's modus operandi. He excels similarly in all of his passions.

  12. It makes a man happy to know that some one from the small village of south Pasadena is producing some photos that rival most professional photography. By these photos Sutro, you've transformed reality into a moving and epic art work that people can relate to.
